wait, breathe; nothing has happened (vänta, andas; ingenting har hänt in Swedish) was an installation in the basement of Monitor Gallery at the School of Photography, Gothenburg University, in February 2008.
I wanted to create a closed and intimate space built around the experience of finding light through darkness. I raised the floor in the small basement room to make the proportions of the space less expected and covered the walls in black fabric to further enhance the feeling of being in a deep and dark place, something slightly separate from the ordinary world. There are two passageways in the installation; first the narrow staircase and the tunnel-like walk into the room, and then the deep, water-filled shaft at the far end, which one cannot pass through, just look down into. The raised floor allowed me to create the illusion of great depth in this hole, since I could lay the particle board shaft horizontally under the floor, but make it seem vertical by using a mirror.
